Optimize my air navigation services using air to ground datalink?

The world’s 160+ Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) handle almost 40 million flights every year and the demand is expected to continue growing in the coming decades, particularly in emerging markets. Air traffic controllers are under huge information demands and workloads. In parallel, they are facing increased pressure for cost reduction.

As traffic increases, so does the risk factor, requiring new safety requirements and a need for ‘failsafe’ procedures that leverage new technologies.

How SITA can help

Did you know?

In Europe, use of datalink technology has become mandatory for airspace users and ANSPs (EC regulation n° 29/2009 for Data Link Service Implementing Rule).

Optimizing air navigation services using air-to-ground datalink is key in helping  air traffic controllers maintain safety and efficiency, while managing increased traffic movements and avoiding controller-pilot misunderstandings. Effective air-to-ground datalink technology also is required as the benchmark on which to build the future air traffic management (ATM) systems.

For more than 20 years, SITA has been the leading provider of vital data link services to ANSPs around the world, providing ANSPs with a comprehensive set of solutions  to optimize air navigation services.

Our datalink services and turnkey air navigation ground solutions enable ANSPs to increase their airspace capacity by implementing easy-to-use datalink applications in en-route and airport environments.

Our solution allows ANSPs to exchange information with the aircraft. It provides improved information and therefore better decision making, such as the ability to know in advance if a flight information region (FIR) on a flight plan has closed or a weather event will impact a planned route.

SITA facts and figures

  • SITA operates a global network of over 1,200 VHF ground stations worldwide, a new ICAO standard VHF digital link service
  • SITA AIRCOM data link supports more than 180 airlines with more than 8,500 individual aircraft in routine airline operation
